CAN WE BE TOO HEAVENLY MINDED TO BE OF ANY EARTHLY GOOD?

Most have heard the popular proverb, “A person should not be so heavenly minded that they are of no earthly good.” I understand the intent of this warning to be: We should not be so focused on eternal and spiritual things that we forget about today and the people around us. Interestingly, the Bible never warns God’s people about being, “too heavenly minded.” Given the state of modern Christianity and contemporary church culture, I don’t think we have to worry about being, “too heavenly minded.”

SOMETHING KANYE WEST REMINDED ME OF

From the Pastor's Dest

For those who don’t know who Kanye West is, he is a famous rap “artist,” as well as the five-year husband of Kim Kardashian. West recently made a bold statement; one he seems to unashamedly repeat every chance he gets. In that statement he professes to have accepted the gospel through repentance and faith, having come under conviction of the Holy Spirit. As a result, he claims to have had a genuine conversion experience. Many have denounced his profession as meaningless, or a publicity stunt. Some, while not setting aside his supposed conversion, have responded with skepticism.

THE DANGER OF FAITHLESS AND EXCESSIVE MOURNING

THE DANGER OF FAITHLESS AND EXCESSIVE MOURNING

“…the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!”               2 Samuel 19:1-8

RELEASING OURSELVES THROUGH BIBLICAL FORGIVENESS

RELEASING OURSELVES THROUGH BIBLICAL FORGIVENESS

Questions about forgiveness are nothing new. It is the same subject Peter questioned the Lord about in Matthew 18:21 where he asked, “…Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?”

So Many Are The Lost - By Pastor Merrick

The following is an article that I wrote some time ago but never posted anywhere. As I was considering what to write for the “Pastor’s Desk” blog, it came to my mind:

As I am writing this article, or observation if you will, I am sitting in the Denver International Airport on my way to preach a revival meeting in Washington State. I was “blessed’ with a four hour layover. Praise the Lord it being made bearable by a well-placed Seattle’s Best Coffee. Starbucks would have been better, but when in a foreign land one has to make due.
